PROMENADE ALONG RAFFLES AVENUE AND MARINA CHANNEL |
|
The Bayfront area is today separated by the Marina Channel from Marina Centre. A new bridge will be constructed to connect these 2 areas, thereby completing the 3.3 km continuous loop. Its completion will also allow the arts, culture, entertainment activities in the Marina Centre area to act as a catalyst to spur development in the Bayfront area. Today, the promenade in front of Esplanade Theatres On the Bay as well as the open space beside the Theatres is actively used for outdoor events. The Singapore Flyer, a giant farris wheel once completed by 2005 will add to the attractions along this stretch of the waterfront. Access to the Bayfront area will be improved when the Millennia station is completed.
Today's Marina Bay is buzzing with commercial boating activities. Ferry to the Southern Islands departs from Clifford Pier. Water taxi also ply the waters to connect Marina Bay, Singapore River and Kallang Basin. The Bay is also the venue for events like F1 Power Boat competition and dragon boat races. All commercial boating activities, except for the water taxis will cease once the barrage is competed. This will make Marina Bay and Kallang Basin ideal for recreational boating.
Night lighting is also planned for the entire 3.3km of the waterfront promenade so that activities can continue into the night. |
