CENTRAL PROMONTORY AND PROMENADE |
|
The Collyer Quay waterfront continues into the Central area. This area is planned for the seamless extension of the CBD eastwards around Marina Bay. The entire area sits on reclaimed land. Reclamation started in __ and was completed ___ years later in ___. One row of Bismarkia Palms and Barringtonia were also planted in 1999 during the mass tree planting day.
Our vision for this area is for it to be an international business and financial hub with modern architecture, infrastructure and amenities such as arts, cultural and entertainment attractions, lushly landscaped public spaces and recreational facilities. 2 parcels of land were sold in the year 2000. The first parcel will meet the increasing demand for offices with larger floor plates. The second will meet the demand for more housing units in the city.
The Central promontory is planned as the focal point along the southern waterfront. This promontory is safeguarded for a public Civic and Cultural Institution building with a well landscaped promenade for the public to enjoy. Developments south of Marina Boulevard will be required to build underground connections to allow pedestrians to move seamlessly from the development to the waterfront. The 25 m width will also pavilions to be built along the promenade and to serve as an amenity to the workers and visitors coming to this area. Pavilions and boardwalks could also be built over the water to bring people closer to the water. |
