To spur further growth in the Bayfront area, we are also planning to release some waterfront parcels for low rise, life-style and entertainment type uses on shorter term leases on the eastern waterfront. Bayfront today offers a panoramic view of Singapore's existing CBD. Although access is currently limited, activity organisers have already started to gravitate towards the Bayfront to hold their events there. Zoukout in July 2003 and Mediaworks' outdoor movies brought some 15,000 partygoers to the open area at the Marina Bayfront to enjoy the lively atmosphere, set against our impressive city skyline. The F1 boat race in Nov 2003 brought about 70,000 spectators to the Bay to enjoy the event. The preliminary phasing plan for the land parcels in the Bayfront area is illustrated in plan ____.
Bayfront promontory and Bayfront Plaza are the two key activity nodes along this stretch of the waterfront. This 750m strip of lands has the potential to as successful and popular as Southbank in Brisbane, Australia. A careful mix of uses together with a amenities and attractions such as the events in Little Stanley Plaza and the freshwater swimming lagoon, all amidst a well landscaped setting, brings people into Southbank both during the weekdays and weekends.
The width of the promenade here averages 25m but could be widened at the Bayfront Plaza for a more generous public space. Bayfront Drive can also closing off on special occasions to create a 40m wide pedestrian promenade.
As this stretch of the promenade is exposed to the direct sun in the afternoon, we envisaged this stretch of the promenade to be well landscaped to provide cool shade to the promenade so that it is an attractive place for outdoor activities. The landscape design and the species to be tropical in character with unique characteristic such as the color of the flowers, or the fragrance of the flowers. |
